09 — In Their Words

What colleagues say.

"
Alayne demonstrates exceptional governance and strategic insight at the board level. Her sound judgement and ability to constructively challenge ensures robust, well-informed decision making. Her leadership and commitment to best practice make her an invaluable asset to any board.
Sonya BeyersChair, Southern Cross Care (Tasmania)
"

I had the opportunity to work with Alayne for twelve months during 2025 and early 2026 in her governance role at Southern Cross Care Tasmania. This was a very busy and challenging period for the Aged Care sector generally and for SCCT as it undertook major uplifts in its technology platforms, delivered major transformation in service standards, and commenced divestment and replanning associated with a major facility. These were major, concurrent and strategically important activities, any one of which would demand close attention and effort from a diligent board member. During this period Alayne also acted as Board Chair for a period of time.

I found Alayne to have an acute sense of responsibility for, and strategic mindset around, her governance role and responsibilities at such a critical time. My observation was that she demonstrated good understanding of the organisational and stakeholder impacts of such major programs, and dedication in her governance role to "asking the right questions" — to guide analysis and review of options, and support decision making for her fellow board members and senior management.

"

I've had the pleasure of working with Alayne Baker over the past 10 years and consistently valued her strong stakeholder engagement skills and strategic insight in the areas of workforce management and organisational culture.

During Alayne's role as Tasmanian President of the Australian HR Institute, we collaborated closely on delivering the Tasmanian Employer of Choice program. Alayne was a key member of the advisory group that brought together industry and professional leaders to drive better workplace practices and improve workforce retention across the state.

A key strength of Alayne's contribution to the program's governance was her thoughtful and effective approach to stakeholder engagement. Her style fostered collaboration, transparency, and confidence among stakeholders, contributing positively to the program's reputation. Alayne is a highly capable governance professional and a valuable contributor at board and senior leadership level.
